Oh my God! How beautiful!!!
When I was very small, I dreamed of working at Ebinger's bakery as a sales girl. I was fascinated with the way the girls picked up the flat boxes from a stack and "popped" them into cake boxes with one motion. Then they wrapped and wrapped each box with string from a cone that hung above them on the ceiling. That process to a four-year old was absolute magic.
When we brought the boxes home, my grandmother would collect the string for her doily making. There was so much string on each box she could make a nice doily with just a few stops at Ebinger's.
I stood in the line eagerly waiting for the girl to shout, "Next"!I knew what I wanted, a Charlotte Russe.
And The Beverly Theater, all lit up. Who could ask for more?

Awesome, I lived on East 3rd in the late 70's and my mom took me to see the animated Disney jungle book. We were there with her boyfriend and he decided we should stay for the next feature, which I seconded. The movie after the jungle book was "Apocalypse Now". A very weird cinematic day for me as a six year old.

The Beverly was a great theater. Great photo too! Thanks for the memories!

PS did you see what's happening with the Loew's Kings? It's going to be restored!:http://umbrooklynborn.blogspot.com/2010/02/photo-wednesday-020310-retouched.html

Wow! The Beverly and Ebingers together. This photo made my day. I remember seeing Mary Poppins on first run at the Beverly in 1964, as well as so many others in later years. And Ebingers Blackout Cake...has there ever been anything better than that? Great Photo!

Anyone else remember the Ace Pool Hall on top of the Beverly theater ? You would climb a long flight of stairs right about where that green awning is to the right of the marquee !
